Poodle

The Poodle were very popular in the 1960's and held the top rank for 23 years. The poodle's good-natured personality is the outermost reason for this. The poodle specifically is a gun dog noted for its ability in the water and bird hunting skills. The English name comes from the German Pudel meaning "to splash about". In Spain poodle is as a perro de lana meaning "wool dog".

TEMPERAMENT:

Poodles are considered to be one of the most intuitive, attentive, and intelligent breeds. Poodles are generally an agile, athletic, and graceful breed. Poodles are extremely people-oriented dogs and, therefore, are eager to please. Many owners marvel about the human qualities of their poodle. They are extremely sensitive to their family's moods and emotions. The Poodle may become overly attached to one particular family member and suffer from separation anxiety. Because they are so intelligent, poodles can become bored easily, and can get quite creative about finding mischief. Poodles are excellent watchdogs, but unlike some working breeds, don't usually become "one-person" dogs when they are part of a family.

Poodles are adaptable and easy to train. They don't require as much exercise as other hunting or working breeds (even the Standards), but being agile and athletic. A poodle would also appreciate lots of exercise.

Lively and playful, poodles have a tremendous sense of humor and a true love of life. Poodles are a breed of distinction, elegance, and dignity.

GENERAL APPEARANCE:
A poodle is very active, intelligent and elegant-appearing dog. An ideal poodle should be squarely built, well proportioned, moving soundly and carrying himself proudly. Properly clipped in the traditional fashion and carefully groomed, the Poodle has about him an air of distinction and dignity peculiar to himself.

LIFE SPAN:
12-16 years..

HISTORY:
The poodle is often thought of as a typically French breed (it is frequently referred to as the "French poodle"). However, it is an old breed and its region of origin is a matter of contention. Most experts believe the poodle originated in Germany or Russia , but it may have come from Iberia. Related breeds of the poodle are the Portuguese Water Dog and Irish Water Spaniel.
