Dog Addison's Disease

Addison's disease is a very complex disease in animals and dogs. Addison's disease is caused by a hormonal deficiency that results from the reduced production of certain hormones released from the adrenal glands, a pair of small but very important structures that are located at the tip of each kidney. Addison's disease are more evident in certain breeds of dogs such as the poodles, rottweilers, westies and great danes. The symptoms vary depending on how much of each hormone is missing but there are still common symptoms that you can see if you want to know if your dog has one.

SYMPTOMS:
The common symptoms of addison's disease are; loss of appetite, vomiting, weight loss, lethargy and increased in thirst and urination. Bloody diarrhea also occures sometimes. When the addison's disease is sever already, the animal may collapse, have a weak pulse, dehydrated and have a low body temperature. Blood sugar may drop significantly aswell.

TREATMENTS:
Treatment of the addison's disease may well be left to your veterinarian. Your trusted veterinarian will design a treatment program based on the severity of the disease. Follow ups and medecines is a must. Continous monitoring is also important. You don't have to worry because many animals go back to their normal lives once the addison's disease is stabilized.
